Standing out in colour, shape or a combination of these two
Florya Breeding develops unique gerberas in colour, shape or a combination of these two factors. We search for the strongest father plant and most beautiful mother plant, or vice versa, in any way for the right couple.
Every time it is exciting, because a gerbera plant is not hybrid. A fertilised flower will give many seeds and each of those have different characteristics, so different colours and shapes. When a seed has grown into a mature plant and starts giving flowers, we see the result of our breeding process for the first time.
New Florya Breeding varieties are tested thoroughly over a two-year period. Growth, colour, stem strength, vase life, shape, it is all included in the evaluation. Together with opinions from our clients, florist, and consumers, we choose the winners that are taken into production by LG Flowers.

In 1987 we started with our own breeding in order to offer our clients an unique and strong assortment. Nowadays I still breed according to the same vision: ‘which father- and mother plant will give the most special, beautiful or strongest gerbera?’. After a period of two years, where the new varieties are tested thoroughly, we use opinions from clients, florists and customers to select which varieties will be taken into production by LG Flowers.
